Berlin, Germany Day 23

10:50am This morning we had a donor kebab for breakfast.  We had a late start.  Berlin is apparently the homeplace of the doner kebab)

Dedicated to kebab lovers everywhere

11pm till 2ish Shopping at Galeria Kaufhof.  Bought socks and other things.  Had a coffee too.  Assisted Lauren in picking clothes.

2:30pm Caught the train to Bahnhof Potsdamer Platz which is the CBD area.  There's surprisingly few people for a city of 3.8 million.  Do all the people go into hiding or something?

We walked around for a bit, walked into a shopping centre as well, Potsdamer Platz Arkaden, just to check it out.  Also stumbled upon Lego Land.  We didn't go in as we had to meet one of Lauren's old school friends at 4pm.

3:45pm or so, caught the train to Eberswalder Straße and met Victoria at a cafe where she worked.  Had some coffee there then went to 2 other places to try some beer (I had a non alcoholic cocktail :)) and then we went to a restaurant that had served fondue.  We only ordered a cheese platter as we had booked dinner at unsicht-Bar for 2 persons at 9pm.

Victoria's been living here for a year and a half.  We found out from her that rent in Berlin is insanely cheap.  500 Euros for a 60 square meters apartment per month!!  What a bargain.

I had non alcoholic beer which tasted remarkably like alcoholic beer!

Cheese platter.  There was a lot of cheese, and butter.

8:55pm Caught the train to Rosa-Luxemburg Platz then took a short walk to unsicht-Bar.  What's so special about this place?  Well, basically you have your food in complete darkness and all the waiters are blind.  It was a very interesting experience!!

Our waitress was blind and had been blind since she was 13.  She has been living in Berlin for 15 years. I felt like I was a blind person for the 3 hours or so we were there.

We weren't given any idea what we were ordered, instead we were given themes to pick from.  I picked River and Sea and Lauren picked Poultry.

After dinner, at around 11pm or so, we found out what we actually had :)  My guesses didn't turn out to be so bad.

This is the poultry menu

The river and sea menu

Time for bed now.  Today's walk count was about 12K or so.  Tomorrow we'll be off to Hamburg.

Last but not least, today's Norway's Constitution Day, so Happy Constitution Day Norge!

  2. I like Berlin's better. It's not heavy and, far cheaper!
