Guides to Norway

These guides are always work in progress.  I'll add more if/when I get specific questions from people.  So feel free to ask a question by posting a comment.  And don't forget to sign up as a follower!

Looking to move?

Guide to moving to Norway.  If you're thinking about moving to Norway, you might want to read this to determine if you should move to Norway.  If you're already here, then you probably shouldn't be reading this.

To move or not to move, that is the question.

Looking to travel?

Guide on travelling in Norway.  If you intend on travelling to Norway, then read this to find out how to get around Norway.  No hot Norwegian girls/guys to travel with you, so you're going to have to find your own travelling companion.  But if you're nice, ask me and I might be your guide.

Looking to learn about Norwegian culture?

Watch Norwegian movies and tv.  Anyone who can understand English can be entertained and educated by watching Norwegian related programs.

Looking to import stuff into Norway?

Norway has a rather bureaucratic import process.  Anything above 20 USD has a 24% VAT tax imposed so it's best to buy things when you're not spending time in this country.  Fedex has clear import guidelines on this if you wish to read further.

Looking to do your tax return in Norway?

Here's my experience on doing a tax return for the financial year 2011.  You might also want to check and fix that skattekort of yours for the year 2013.

How babies react to taxes.

How much will I earn in Norway after tax/legalised theft?

Good news.  There's an income calculator on the tax (thieves) office website.  Bad news.  It's Norwegian only.  Check it out here for the year 2013.  And more bad news.  No chocolate.

You'll be sad after finding out how much you have to pay in taxes, so please, eat some chocolate to calm your nerves.  Guys, buy a box for your woman, this is not for you.

Leaving Norway?

Since I'm leaving Norway I've also wrote a guide to leaving Norway.

  1. Hello from Singapore! :)

Came to your blog while looking for info on working in norway :) Great blog, funny and informative, I really enjoyed reading it, and also glad that someone agrees with me that Norway is expensive! Was there 2 years ago, love mostly everything, other than the price tags on stuffs! Keep writing and thanks! :)

  2. Hello my fellow Singaporean, Thanks for the compliments, and you're welcome! I'm sure many people would agree with you that it's expensive, not just me, perhaps everyone else is just too shy in posting. :) To come for holidays to Norway probably requires the sale of a kidney for citizens of many countries, so you're lucky that you came here for holidays (and still manage to keep your kidney :))

  3. I kept my kidney because I sold my lung.. :p
Anyway, I am from Malaysia, living in Singapore for quite a long time and looking to live somewhere else for a change. Thinking of norway because I had a really great time there, and should be pretty exciting (i think) because it is so different from Malaysia and Singapore!

  4. Hello my fellow Malaysian neighbour! Well one lung is better than no lung :D Have you travelled much? It's certainly very different, and probably not for everyone. But there is only one sure way to find out. Best to continue this conversation on Twitter, lest this thread becomes longer than the blog post! Twitter @ http://bit.ly/xCNIML
