6:30am Another early morning start. Our van picked us up at 7:30am and we were dropped off Amalfi coast where a coach bus awaited. As usual we were the youngest ones on the bus.
The day started off grey and rainy and gradually got worse in the afternoon. A huge contrast to the day before.
9:15am Arrived at Pompeii. Tickets were 11 Euros for entry. I've only read about Pompeii in books and if you asked me when I was a kid if I would ever be here I would have said no way! But now here I am. Pompeii is incredibly well preserved considering how old it is. It was buried by a volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD buried under 6 metres of volcanic ash.

Fancy carvings on the walls
Macellum, this was the market
Bodies frozen in time. This was a slave. Slaves lived in the same homes as their owners.
A grove indicates doors that presumably lead to a shop
Beware of dog! This is an original mosiac.
House of the Dancing Faun, a 300 square meter house owned by the richest person in Pompeii
In the house of the dancing faun
Pompeii brothel, prostitutes used to come from all over the world and couldn't speak the language so customers would just point to the pictures on the wall to indicate what they wanted

Prostitution, slavery, shopping, entertainment, nothing has changed in over 2000 years. :)
12pm We had lunch at a restaurant near Pompeii. I had spaghetti bolognese (chicken instead of beef, is that how it's supposed to be?) and Lauren had lasagne. It was 13 Euros each.
And gelato, with some berries. We've had gelato for 5 days in a row. :)
1:45pm Bus took us to Mount Vesuvius. At this point the weather was really bad, couldn't see anything at the top. It was very rainy and cloudy. This was the best picture that I took. The rest just looked like scenes out of Silent Hill.
3ish The bus dropped us off at a cameo factory but there was nothing really interesting there. After 15 minutes or so we got back on the bus back to the Amalfi coast. Arrived back in Positano at 6:30pm or so. Walked about 8K steps today. We had dinner just opposite to where we stayed as it was pouring rain and dark.
Baked fish with vegetables
Linguine with anchovies, cherry tomatoes and wild fennel seeds. The anchovies were tasty.
Mixed vegetables, zucchini, eggplant with tomatoe and mozzarella, grilled eggplant, radicchio
Weather wasn't really good today but we made the best use of it. :) This post is for April 30th.
Two blog postings in one day, hurray!
